RENEWAL OVERVIEW
How does it work?
What is renewal?
Michael will style 2 photoshoots in each location alongside one of his favorite couples photographer, Gwyndolyn, who will style 1 photoshoot in each location. The 9 photoshoots will be spread over two days in various locations across North Carolina.
Attendees will be able to sign up for photoshoots based on which locations they prefer. Each location will give a different editorial aesthetic; Nature, Concrete, and Beach.
At each location there will be three photoshoots. Michael and Gwyndolyn will be there to help with any posing and questions you have. At the location, attendees will be split into smaller groups with each group having dedicated time at each concept. Once split up into your group, you will be able to split into even smaller (3-5) groups and rotate to make grabbing shots easier. Each team will go through all 3 concepts and have more than enough dedicated time to shoot. There will be someone with each group at all times to regulate and make sure that everyone is receiving an equal amount of shoot time.
Prior to Renewal we will be setting up a Discord server so the attendees can communicate with one another about travel and lodging to help with reducing costs.
Michael Betzner Photography presents Renewal as an editorial portfolio building content event. As an artist you'll be able to experiment, learn, and network alongside your peers. Renewal consists of three locations with 3 photoshoots at each location for a total of 9 photoshoots.
What will we shoot?
We will be capturing a large variety of editorial high fashion concepts. There will be a range of group photoshoots and individual shoots. When conceptualizing this event I was inspired by cinematic landscapes, unexpected textures, and funky out-of-the-box props. With the large volume of work, Renewal is a great place to experiment and learn no matter the 'type' of photographer you are.

FAQ's
Renewal is for photographers or videographers who wants to freshen up their portfolio or social media, meet new creatives, try new things, and grow their business.
Whether you've just started your journey as a creative or have been practicing visual media for years, there is something for you at Renewal.
We don’t mind if you bring someone with you to keep you company between shoots or while you’re grabbing food. If you do bring someone, they will not be able to attend photoshoots. We want our models, staff, and attendees to work without extra distractions and to keep them as comfortable as possible.
Since this event is first come first serve, we can’t guarantee that you will get the location you want the most. When you’re applying for your tickets we will be asking you to give us your location preferences in order. We will do our best to provide you with your preference.
I have found that shooting in styles outside of my comfort zone (couples, studio, and documentary style) has helped me develop myself as an editorial artist. I believe that putting yourself in uncomfortable situations encourages growth. Renewal is a great place to stretch and build your other photography muscles.
Renewal is not a workshop, it’s a Content Day. Both have positives and negatives but what’s important to note here is that Renewal won’t offer housing, food, or transportation. There will be plenty of time for you to network (and I'd love for you to) and learn from each other. Because this is a Content Day that means you’ll be able to decide how you spend your time and energy. Mindset is everything so come ready to learn, fail, experiment, and grow with your peers.
We would like to believe that the weather will always be sunny and cooperative. But that’s not always the case, so we advise you to bring plastic coverings for your gear, layers of clothing, waterproof shoes, sunscreen, hats, extra water, and anything else you might need if the weather is untamed. Be prepared for heat, cold, wet, windy, or any other elements Mother Earth decides to throw at us. We will do our best to maintain the schedule and allow everyone time to photograph the concepts and models. But we also want to make it clear that safety for our models, staff, and attendees is our number one goal.
We plan on having up to 10 in a shoot group. While the groups are photographing a concept we will split each group into 3-5 people who will be given the freedom to organize in whichever way they want. Each group will have about an hour at each concept. We will have staff watching to make sure that everyone is being given an equal amount of shoot time. The best way to maximize your time is to brainstorm some shots you want. It's not always necessary to get thousands of photos, try to be intentional and it will go a long way.
As an editorial photographer myself I struggled to find content events geared towards editorials without having couples incorporated. Since I’m not artistically drawn to couples or elopements I found myself struggling to dedicate my time, money, and resources to go to an event where 50% of the content didn’t interest me. That's why we started MBP Content Events. We wanted to offer the creative portrait, editorial, fashion, and out-of-the-box photographers something that catered to their creative side.
